As a parent, how involved should I be?

Eating disorders are a family problem and there is growing evidence to suggest that family involvement is crucial to recovery – for everyone. It is important not to blame yourself or your child for having an eating disorder and to focus instead on listening without judgment, compassion, and compromise. An eating disorder in the family will affect everyone and is often a difficult journey, but recovery is possible and support is crucial. Remind yourself that you cannot force your child to recover; they will recover in their own time. Everyone has a different recovery process and by offering your love and support during this time, you are already making a big difference in their healing.
